I mean, the most important people in their lives, their most beloved person “grew out” of their “phase.”
The least you could let them do it find love in each other when Hobbes visits his 2nd cousin Tiggers house in a drunken stupor and is comforted by Tiggers friend who Tigger says can help him out, is in the same situation, who helps everyone out, and Hobbes meets Pooh and they fall in love slowly over the course of several months.
